OUR MARKET

Mobility

Overview

As the transition toward carbon neutrality accelerates, the electric vehicle (EV) and battery industries are emerging as the cornerstones of next-generation mobility.

Insulation Korea delivers optimized refractory lining solutions specifically engineered for Roller Hearth Kilns (RHK) and Box Furnaces used in the calcination of battery electrode materials.

By integrating thermal shock-resistant, high-purity Ceramic Fiber modules and high-performance Lightweight Castable design technologies, we ensure precise temperature uniformity even under repeated thermal cycling conditions, maximizing production efficiency.

Furthermore, we provide ultra-slim, high-efficiency Thermal Barrier solutions for battery modules and packs to mitigate Thermal Runaway—a critical safety challenge in lithium-ion batteries.

Our solutions prevent the propagation of abnormal heat between cells, delaying fire spread to secure critical evacuation time for passengers.

At the same time, our slim-profile designs meet the lightweight requirements of modern mobility, while extending battery life and enhancing safety standards.

Leveraging our advanced thermal management expertise, Insulation Korea is positioning itself as a key partner across the entire future mobility ecosystem—from manufacturing facilities to end-product safety.

Next-Generation Thermal Insulation Solutions for ESS & EV Battery Safety

1. The Core of Battery Safety: Blocking Thermal Runaway Propagation

As the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage system (ESS) markets continue to expand, concerns over battery fires are also increasing.

One of the most critical risks is Thermal Runaway, where heat originating from a single cell rapidly propagates to adjacent cells.

To address this challenge, we introduce SILTHERM Microporous Insulation—a highly reliable line of defense designed to effectively block thermal propagation at its source.

2. A Breakthrough in Microporous Insulation Driven by Nanotechnology

SILTHERM is not a conventional insulation material—it is an advanced solution engineered with nano-scale technology, primarily composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂).

  - Nanoporous Structure : Utilizes nano-sized particles (20–40 nm) to physically suppress gas molecule movement, effectively minimizing convective heat transfer.

  - Radiant Heat Shielding : Incorporates 20–30% opacifiers that significantly reduce radiant heat at high temperatures.

  - Ultra-Low Thermal Conductivity: Achieves an exceptionally low thermal conductivity of approximately 0.02 W/m·K at ambient temperature.

3. Why SILTHERM? (Compared to Aerogel Felt)

Compared to conventional aerogel felt widely used in the industry, SILTHERM demonstrates superior performance backed by measurable data.

  - High-Temperature Performance : Thermal conductivity of 0.036 W/m·K at 800°C—more than twice as efficient as aerogel felt (0.08 W/m·K).

  - Heat Resistance : Withstands temperatures ranging from 1,000°C to 1,200°C.

  - Nano Conten t: Contains 65–70% nano-scale powder, significantly higher than aerogel felt (30–35%), ensuring more stable insulation performance.

4. Battery-Optimized Solution: SILTHIN

For battery pack applications, SILTHIN, a thin yet highly effective insulation solution, is specifically designed.

  - Ultra-Thin Design : Available in thicknesses from 0.8 mm to 6 mm, preserving battery energy density.

  - Fire Delay Performance : Prevents heat propagation to adjacent cells for critical minutes in the event of a failure, securing valuable evacuation time.

  - Compression Pad Functionality : Also serves as a compression pad, absorbing swelling during battery charge and discharge cycles.

5. Proven Compliance with Global Safety Standards

SILTHERM is a trusted solution that meets stringent domestic and international fire safety standards

  - UL94 V-0 : Achieved the highest level of flame retardancy classification.

  - Korean Certification : Complies with non-combustibility and gas toxicity tests in accordance with MOLIT regulations.

  - Global Standards : Meets key ESS and battery safety standards, including NFPA 855 and UL 9540A.
